Santa Maria Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!
Early this month, we hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and reception for our new Santa Maria office. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Santa Maria Chamber of Commerce as well as other business and community members. The Chamber wrote a lovely article that captures our excitement for this new opportunity. The article also features a video interview with our CEO, Brendan Morris, discussing how this has been a long time in the making and we are looking forward to meeting the needs and exceeding the expectations of new and existing clients in Santa Barbara County.
Healthcare Reform Dies in Congress
On Friday March 24, 2017, Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, announced that the American Health Care Act has been pulled from consideration on the House floor. Republicans were not able to garner a sufficient number of votes amongst conservative and some moderate members in order to secure passage in the House. The bill, had it passed, would have begun the process of reforming major provisions of the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. Obamacare) including the employer and individual mandates. With this legislative defeat, Speaker Ryan acknowledged that, “we will be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future.”
Speaker Ryan further announced that the Republicans will be moving on to other items in their legislative agenda including tax reform and infrastructure spending. This in effect kills heath care reform for at least 2017. In fact, there may not be another attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act until after the mid-term elections in 2018.

M&G Loves SLO
This past weekend, and for the second year in a row, Morris & Garritano employees and friends volunteered alongside hundreds of community members for an event called Love SLO. This annual day of service matches volunteers with non-profit projects throughout San Luis Obispo.
This year, M&G had 48 volunteers! It was too many for one project, so we had the opportunity to help out two great causes – The SLO Food Bank and The Women’ Shelter Program. We were able to assist with various projects at both organizations and had were able to learn more about the care they provide and the assistance that is needed in SLO County.
While we love giving back to our community, we also love that these events give us a chance to spend time with our co-workers outside of the office. We value the relationships that we build at M&G and appreciate any opportunity we get to strengthen them. I can guarantee we’ll be volunteering again next year – hopefully with even more team members!
